Ingredients

The Mongolian Rice Bowl is an Asian-style dish, but these ingredients aren’t hard to find at all. In fact, you might already have these wonderful spices in your kitchen cupboards.

Here are all the ingredients you’ll need to create the perfect rice bowl:

For the sauce:

  • 3 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp garlic
  • 1/2 tbsp. ginger
  • 2 tbsp. brown Sugar
  • 2 tsp. sesame or peanut Oil
  • 1 tbsp. corn starch and 2 tbsp. water
  • Water
  • Red chili flakes (to taste)
  • Sesame seeds (Optional)
  • Hot sauce

For the vegetables (julienned):

  • 1 tbsp. Sesame oil
  • 1-2 red chilis
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Bell peppers
  • White onions
  • Tofu
  • Carrots
  • Lettuce/cabbage
  • Spring onions

Directions

Prepare rice that’s good enough for 3-4 bowls. While it’s cooking, you can start working on your Mongolian sauce:

STEP 1. Using 2 tsbp. of cold water, dissolve your cornstarch. Set this aside.

STEP 2. In a sauce pan, heat 2 teaspoons of sesame or peanut oil then add garlic and ginger to saute on medium heat.

STEP 3. After a few seconds, mix in the soy sauce, brown sugar, and red chili flakes. Eyeballing it, add water into the pan—around a cup. Boil for 2-3 minutes then remove from the stove.

STEP 4. Give your sauce a taste test and make some minor adjustments if needed.

STEP 5. Once your rice is done cooking, divide it into 3-4 bowls. Divide the sauce accordingly, too. Add in your veggies and spices, taste test, make some adjustments, and you’re done!

Whether you’re craving Asian cuisine or you’re on the hunt for the next easy and healthy comfort food, this Mongolian Rice Bowl is an amazing dish to give a try. Trust us, this is one meal you’ll be raving about for days—you’ll want to be cooking for friends and family all the time!
