Cheeseburger Rice Skillet Ingredients

  • 2 cups minute rice (uncooked)
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 2/3 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 chopped pickles
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to Make Cheeseburger Rice

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add beef, onion, and garlic. Season with salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and mustard.
  3. Saute the chopped onion, ground beef, and garlic until they are cooked through. If they clump together, break them up with a wooden spoon.
  4. Transfer the ground beef mixture to a plate.
  5. In the same skillet, stir in rice, water, tomato sauce, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then from medium-high heat, reduce heat to medium-low heat.
  6. Stir in chopped tomatoes and simmer covered until the rice is tender and water is absorbed.
  7. Add the ground beef mixture to the large pan. Stir until thoroughly mixed and warmed through, about 4 minutes.
  8. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top of the beef and rice mixture.
  9. Let the skillet sit, covered until the cheddar cheese is melted, about 5 minutes more.
  10. Set up a topping bar with extra ketchup, mustard, cheese, lettuce, chopped tomatoes, and chopped pickles.
  11. Serve the Cheeseburger Rice warm.

Recipe Tips

  • If you have no garlic on hand, garlic powder works just as well.
  • Serve extra ketchup, mustard, cheese, pickles, and other cheeseburger ingredients on the side for everyone to top their Cheeseburger Rice as desired.
  • You can also use cooked rice for this recipe. Instead of letting the mixture boil, stir it in with the beef.
