Japanese Video Game Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Tops Sales

Japanese video game Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin has surpassed the 850,000 mark for both physical and digital sales, according to the game’s publishers and developers.
The Edelweiss-developed game follows harvest goddess Sakuna on her journey in the demon-run wilderness after she is banished from her opulent home. Relying on her powers, she must face monsters and weather the elements to rediscover her birthright.
The mythology-inspired game was previously announced to have reached half a million shipments back in November of 2020.
The independent game is known for its unique take on traditional Japanese mythology, featuring the well-known figure Sakuna among other gods and goddesses.
To build the heroine’s strength, one must follow the correct steps to cultivating the ideal crop, from planting all the way to harvest. The aesthetic and flavor contribute to Sakuna’s fighting abilities.
The warrior daughter uses farm tools to take down her demonic enemies, all while trying to master divine powers in order to succeed in more difficult challenges.
By completing different quests, Sakuna receives help from her mortal companions who create armor, weapons, and meals through the materials she gathers.
The game has received praise for introducing a new audience to ancient agricultural techniques and practices, fostering an appreciation for rice harvesting and farming in a new generation of young minds.
